Hi all I bought a aqua style 620t yesterday filled it and got the heater in and filter running I have got the gravel in and a large piece of bogwood in but that is it what would be a good thing to do next to kick start the filter thanks

or you can go for the fish in cycle with zebra danios ( also known as starter fish ) , ive also been told if doing a fishless cycle to add a bit of fishfood or a small piece of meat to the tank to help with the good bacteria , ive never use bottles of ammonia and have yet to lose any fish during the cycle

Fish in cycles are hell of a lot more work though as you need to keep on top of ammonia and nitrite levels by doing daily (sometimes multiple daily) 70%+ water changes. I'd go with fishless cycle, as it's quicker, easier and there's no risk to any fish, as Essjay recommended

Do you know anyone who keeps fish Richard? If so, you could pinch a bit of their mature media to get your filters going
