I'm upgrading from 48L to 125L. I'm going to put my current fish, plants, driftwood, & substrate in the new tank. I'm also going to run the old filter in the new tank (with the new tank's filter) for a couple months to help it along. Then I'll add some more fish. How often should i water change in the new tank and how much should I change at a time? Also, any other advice for my upgrade?

one option is to just cut up the sponges (media) from your old filter and stuff it into your new one along with the new sponges. the good bacteria will spread quickly onto the new surfaces helping them establish a new colony. it will save you running two filters at the same time. its called seeding. ive used this method a few times to good effect.

oh as well, when you do your change over dont forget to keep your old filter media in some old tank water. you want it drying out and killing off your good bacteria. good luck hope to see some pics soon.
