so i just set up an XP3 canister filter for my hundred gallon tank. i want to get my hepsetus odoe in there as quick as possible, how can i skip past the adding ammonia and stuff, i was reading on having fish in there from the get go, but couldnt i add my old filter into the new canister for the bacteria help? any help would be greatly appreciated

Moving your old filter material to your new canister would move over all your good bacteria, thereby instantly cycling your tank. However, the bacteria will only be able to support the same amount of bio-load that was in your older tank, so I'd wait a couple of weeks before adding any fish in addition to the one you are adding.

well right now i have a hepsetus odoe (african pike) a syno catfish and a small bn in a 30 gallon, and i know this is kinda stupid question, but the filter media is like either a bag, or whatever the water is flowing through right? and if so my 30 gallon has like a rectangle thing, would i just put that into one of the empty boxes in my canister?

The only stupid question is the one unasked. And yes, just put the rectangle thing (filter cartridge) in your canister. You'll also want to feed the fish lightly for the first week, and keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite in case you have a mini cycle, though I personally haven't had any problem moving up in tanks.
