Hey,

I'm starting a new 10 gallon tank, And I'd like to base it around bottom feeding fish, and only really have 2-4 of them in my tank. I need some help choosing some which would be a good fish to have, one fairly active and that looks nice. The tank has a base of a small substrate, a little bit bigger then sand, and is well planted. People have recommended a small group of Cory's or some otocinclus.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would not house the "pygmy" species of cory over any substrate but true sand, like play sand which is not rough.  And any corys you select will need a decent sized group, five or more for the larger (normal) species and 9+ for the pygmy/dwarf species.

Another issue is your not having upper fish...this can make any corys very timid, I know from personal experience.  And, what are the water parameters?  Many of the small fish suitable in a 10 gallon tank will be wild caught and may have specific requirements when it comes to the water parameters.

Byron.
