So today I got some new big java ferns and some hairgrass.
I had a bucket with some tank water which I was keeping them in as I places them in the tank.

I had put them all in the tank and was grabbing a handfull of rock wool and debris frm the bottom of the bucket to sqeeze out and put in the bin.
I felt a spike in my finger.

I dropped everything and looked at my hand and there was some kind of bug on my finger, I went to shake it off but it wouldn't get off, so I brushed it off and looked at my finger. There was a splinter kind of thing in it, I pulled it out with my finger nails.

When I saw the bug I reacted frantically and went beserk because I didn't want some bug from the tropics injecting me with death juice so I didn't get a good look at it, but it looked about 2mm long and light coloured with a dark center, sort of like a big daphnia...

Any ideas what stabbed me and if I'm going to die or go into shock?
Oh yeah, the ferns had java moss in the roots which suggests they are fresh in from Java or something like that...

Thanks...

sounds like that bug that uses a sharp needle like appendage to inject its young. The young make the slow journey through the blood stream until they eventually enter the kidneys. Once there they begin to grow until they finally make their way down to your privates, where they use hooks to nest.

this is completely true, haven't made it up to scare you at all.......honest.

I'm still alive!

And enjoying the free Java moss :p

there probably leaches, i found a few on my crypts
it wouldnt have been a leech that HURT him. leeches have an anesthetic in their saliva that numbs the area. you wouldnt feel them bite.
just an fyi
cheers
ive been latched onto by a leach and the initial incision can be felt on thin areas of skin, thats why when they latch onto legs it cant be felt, because by the time theyve bitten through, the anesthetic will have worked
