I'm aware that for Riccia you need to use netting to hold it down and was wondering if its the same for pellia?

I had read it should just sink and clump on it's own, but that doesn't seem to happen due to filter currents.
At the moment I tried using some of the plastic grid that is sold in craft shops, (for some kind of needle work I think), but I don't know if thats any good or not, I'm thinking not.

This is the stuff I am using at the moment:

Thanks :)

Pelia isnt lots of individual leaves, they are joined together wink.gif

Yeah, mine came in a sheet...I just wrapped a bit of string around it vertically and then one horizontally.

erm... mines broken then :(

Will have to get a photo of it later... to check with everyone

Well, I think I see the problem!

This is how Pellia is pictured on their website:

So looks like I've been well and truely diddled - time for a phonecall!

I take it those wiggly brown bits in the closeup photo are what are supposed to constitute the 'bulk' of the plant, and that the green bits really are leaves? (or are those brown bits some part of another plant?)

By the brown bits do you mean the long strands of moss? I wouldnt be happy with that, best thing to do is get a net and let it sink in the tank until it grows a bit.

If the long brown strands are moss, then yeah, it was those that I meant.

I'm going to try netting all the green bits together and see if they clump like it's supposed to be, unless there are any better suggestions?

I wouldn't chuck the plant, I'd definitely do as Aaron suggests and try to save it. I would be asking for a replacement/refund though.

Schmill, you will have a tough job holding the plastic mesh down as it floats  Better off use a mesh to wrap some of the larger fragments onto some wood or rock. It will grow through fine eventually. I have some "supposedly" round pellia (but looks like pellia to me) and I used some netting from kiwi fruits you buy from supermarket. At first it looked completely flat but it turns out not too bad
