how come some has a blue top but some are just the same colour as the body?

I'm not sure what you mean, but there are Cardinal tetras and Neon tetras, which are similar, but the cardinals red stripe runs along the whole body.

uhmmm u know how the neon has the red tail and the blue strip, and the plain body, for the blue bit, the neons at one of the lfs has a deeper blue then the other shop,

the fish with brighter blue stripes may be more settled or more mature or it maybe even down to the lighting used in each shop....
