This is my old tank....

As you can see its a bit tacky with the gravel, and its only a 60 litre

This is my new tank....

Ive changed it to a much more natural look, and its 120 litres.

Not sure what to add to it though?

Im gonna buy a big range of live plants.

And ive got a bit of bogwood, only a smallish piece (which isnt in the tank yet)

and i was thinking of maybe adding like one of them broken ships or a crashed plane or something in it. but not to sure what that would look like...

could do with some advice? or pictures of other peoples natural looking tanks, ive seen some amazing ones in my time and id love some advice to make mine look great.

all advice would be really appreciated!

Thats my tank, which I like to think looks quite natural.

Personally I think the key is substrate and natural looking decoration with a mixture of live and plastic plants. You need to try and stop the tank from looking too uniform, and the undulations from a sand based substrate with rocks and plants really help.

if u want to go for natural look go for natural colored substrates, i think broken ships and such wont be a good idea instead go for cave formation pots. choose a centarl piece for ur aquarium like a big driftwood, large stone or some type of rock formation

later down the road if you want a change...scoop out about 1/4 of the gravel on one side and add white sand...the natural rock and sand will mix into a very natrual looking substrate.

The new gravel looks a lot better! I can't bear coloured gravel personally. I think that along with your small piece of bogwood, a few smooth pebbles ( about as big as your palm ) would look nice, or some pieces of slate carefully stacked/arranged ( you can glue them together with aquarium sealant and leave for 24 hours before adding to the tank if you want a tall stack of slate that is stable and won't topple ) .

Plenty of plants as you said, and perhaps another piece of wood, a really twisted interesting piece with some java moss tied to it would look great. Here are my tanks , all of which are natural in style except for the ornament in the Hex tank ( which I would like to think is reasonably tasteful )

The white stripes look like a type of quartz to me...Zebra stone... never heard of it before. If it has an offical name I suspect it isn't that! haha.

An LFS near me sells rough cut ( like your zebra stone ) Sodalite, Aventurine and Quartz for fishtanks  Big chunks of the stuff too. I collect crystals and minerals and to buy a polished piece of any of those in the same size range would cost at least £20-30, so to me the idea of putting such a chunk in a fishtank boggles the mind!

I never pay for rocks unless it's something really unusual ;) I think the prices they charge for things like that are just silly when you can go out and dig your own up for free!

the wires will be gone soon, im going for a clear background, and im fitting a light unit behind the tank to illuminate it like george farmer did.
