Currently im using 2x25L drums that i stick the end of my gravel vac syphon into and clean away,
once drum is full i empty out back into drain (women complain if i do it down sink lol).
Apart from lifting drums of water, it's not too bad & i dont mind this part...

Here's the problem though, filling the tank back up?
Obv the 25L drums are too big to fit under the kitchen sink & using buckets takes forever!

The kitchen sink has one of them 'mixer' taps on it but tbh it's pretty ******
so im constantly having to check the water temp (by hand).

Anyone got any cheap method of me filling the tank back up that's quick?
- I'm using seachem prime too.

I syphon 25 litres out into a bucket then fill it back up with 25 litres that i have had in a container sat by the radiator for a day. I guess just having it in the room to warm up over night would be fine as it don't lower the temperature in the tank too much.

What's the volume of the tank? If the removed volume is less than 25% of the total tank volume I wouldn't bother heating it, there is no need, it wouldn't have a significant effect on the fish, if anything it would emulate rainfall in their natural environment.

if you've got a mixer tap, does the end screw off? you could get a tap connector and fill straight from the tap via a hose then.

240L, been doing large water changes alot recently due to ammonia problems - It's painful moving so many drums of water lol.

It's a mixer tap yeah but the end doesnt screw off, i'd have to find some way of connecting it as this seems like the best option i guess!

I could also empty the tank via a long hose too
but is there any other way of getting it started without sucking on the end like a mad man? lol

You can buy a hozelock connector that fixes directly to the tap, then use a length of hose to syphon to a drain and then fill directly from the tap,

clear hose is about £1.00 per meter from an aquatics and attachment is about a fiver

i kinda made a python but it looked like it wastes too much water so i just suck on the end to syphon, bought some tap connectors to hook a hose up to put it back in- i think 15m of hose from b&q was about 7.50

The tap is wierd man, there's like nothing for the connector to 'grip' onto.
I'll have to have a good look around some shops, see if i can find something that'll fit it!

I'll give it ago cheers :good:

If the hose is long enough you could try two connectors and use your bathroom taps? I did this when we first moved to this house and the hose didn't fit on the end of the tap in the kitchen (needless to say I very quickly went out and bought a new kitchen tap!) a Y piece and some short bits of hose and I had myself a system where I could attach it to both hot and cold and adjust as necessary.

Hose is definitely the way to go though - throw it out the back door while draining water and use to water the garden plants. You can buy hand pumps to start a siphon - they are like a bulb that you attach to the end of your gravel cleaner or whatever.

i used a 10L watering can to do my water changes on my 240L. It wasnt much fun :)

the hoselock connector bigbruiser suggested is the one i use, just attach it to the end of of the hose and to a mixer tap in the kitchen, tape a soft drink bottle to the other end and you've got yourself a gravel cleaner that you can use to siphon the water straight outside, not the prettiest thing in the world but works a treat
