Hi all!

Ok I have a 100 litre tank currently cycling (fishless), and a 70 litre fully cycled tank which contains 7 tiger barbs and 6 pepper Corys. The Tiger Barbs are for the 100 litre tank when it is fully cycled. Will the Tigers be ok to go into a newly cycled tank? If not would it be best to add a different species of fish and giving the tank a month or so to 'mature'? How many Tigers would I be able to keep in 100 litres? and would I be able to keep any other species with them?? I have 6 sparkling Gouramis in a 110 litre community tank, would they be ok with Tigers or would the Tigers be to aggressive?

Sorry more questions!!!

My 70 litre tank. Will it be ok to keep the Corys in there?? I saw them and had to buy them (naughty I know!) they are truely awesome fish!

What would you recommend for the 70 litre in terms of stocking???

Here is a pic of the tank and how it is set up, if it would help

Finally (sorry!)

my 110 litre community Tank I got some excellent advice from here. Any tips on how to improve?? I aim to buy some amazon sword for the back of the tank and maybe get some hair grass (I believe its called?) for the front... what do you think!??

Sorry about all the questions thanks in advance

What do you mean by "fully cycled" tank? That takes a couple months to accomplish usually, if you're doing a fishless cycle. And no, you shouldn't put ANY fish in it until the readings you get from your professional liquid test kit come back 0 for ammonia and nitrites and 5-50 ppm for nitrates. If you've used mature media from your 70l tank the process won't take long at all. But please let us know how you've cycled so far so we're much better able to answer your questions.

They are both handsome tanks, btw.

Did you seed the new filter with old media? If not, do so.. it tends to speed up cycling by a few weeks. Yes, the barbs should be fine. 15-20 should be ok in 100 litres, maybe even more. Yes, you could keep a pleco or a pair, maybe a largeish gourami and some rougher cichlids too, but I'd start with plecos, then think about it some more. I would not put tiger barbs with sparking gouramis.

Depends on species. Small ones ok, larger ones I would want a bigger tank for.

What would you recommend for the 70 litre in terms of stocking???
* 6 medium Corys or 8-10 small Corys
* 8-10 small shoalers of one species (espei rasboras, Boraras, etc)
* shrimp

Maybe some Crypts..?

Your tanks look lovely, by the way.. but I can't see any tiger barbs in any of the photos!

YES! I was going to mention that and it slipped my mind. Where are the tiger barbs? The little orange tetras almost look like flame tetras or maybe even von Rios.

Hi thanks for the reply... The 100 litre isn't cycled yet I am following the fishless cycle from the begineers resource centre, which I also did with my 110 litre which has been running for about 5 months now. To help speed up the process I have added some media from both the 110 and the 70, it's only been cycling for about a week. so early stages.

Sorry about the confusion

Jay

Thanks for helping sort all that out!

Ha no worries... would the Peppered corys be deemed medium?
I'd put them down as large, they can get up to 3" or just under.

Ok thanks would they be suitable in the 100 litre with the Tigers? or would it be better to move them to my peaceful community tank? although this tank has 2 clown plecs.

Just had a look at your photo's on Flickr amazing your tank is beautiful!

Peppered Corys should be fine with tiger barbs if you have a large enough school of tigers and a 3ft tank would do them good too. I have never had problems mixing Corys and plecos.

Thanks :)

If it helps, i have 18 tigers in my 90 litre and they are perfectly fine. I've not put anything else in there with them though. I'll probably end up buying a 125 tank in a year or so and transfer them to that, they are still relatively young for now. Putting corys in there could be a problem food wise, the barbs manage to destroy a froze cube of bloodworm in 30 seconds flat. They really dont leave much food around, so feeding others might be a problem. Hence species only tank for me.

Thank you for that Kat I will move my Corys over to that tank then

Hi Tizer, thanks for the reply I will aim for about 15-18 tigers then and just have it as a Tiger Barb tank.
