Hi!

One day I saw these cool fish in the Pet Store and I bought all of them. They were Severum, and they were 15. The Lady didn't tell me that they were gonna grow as big as 8"! Now they're in a 75 gallon tank with 11 Blue Gouramis, and 6 Pearl Gouramis. What should I do!?! And how long will it take them to grow up to 8"?? Thanks!

They can actually get bigger than 8".. more like up to 12". And yeah, the only thing you really can do is take them back and kick up a fuss. How big are they now?

I can't bring them back anymore... it's been around a month since I got them. Uhh..Roughly about 2 inches..

They're so cool...I want to keep them though.. Any tank suggestions? Can I keep 'em in a pond? 'Cause my grandafther has a dry, fishless pond (nothing in it. just air).. if we severums can go into ponds maybe I can give him some..or something...

Thanks for your responses!

You won't be able to get your money back but you might find they will take them back.

If the pond's big enough and heated, I don't see why not..

no, it'd have to be much stronger or loads of them. You can probably get pond heaters. I don't know to be honest. I've just heard people around here mention heated ponds. :)

Oh...hehe...It's ok. I'll just try to ask the local stores for some pond heaters or anything to heat a pond..hehe..I hope things would turn out right! But what if my grandfather doesn't want 'em!? Will I just give them away? Or sell them perhaps?

what are you saying dude???!?!?

you dont even kno where he comes from yet your saying he can keep them outside in a pond?

ive only ever really heard of oscars being kept in ponds and thats in boiling hot (all year round) places.

your only choice unless you plan on buying a tank of probably atleast 280 gallons is to either take some back (accept the fact you wont get the money back) or try and sell some on.

this is why its important to kno what fish your buying before you buy them. also good to kno what your dealing with before answering threads like this idle.

As I said at the beginning, if it's the right temp and the pond large enough, I don't see why it wouldn't work? Granted, it would have to be a big pond and well maintained, but it by the sounds of it, the OP is only young and his granddad will be making the decisions. If he lives in a really cold place, I hardly think he'd agree to it.

yea but it mite be worth mentioning that the pond would need to be filtered and covered for starters.

then theres the fact that heating a pond costs a fortune.

he may be youg but you shouldnt assume that or give him ideas that mite not work. nice edits by the way.

There's a lot of things I didn't go into. I just said [in my opinion] it could be done.

then theres the fact that heating a pond costs a fortune.

That's not for me to worry about. He was asking if it could be done. He didn't ask if it'd be cheap.

he may be youg but you shouldnt assume that or give him ideas that mite not work.

I didn't give him any ideas!! I just said it's possible and would need to be big enough and heated! That's hardy leading him down a wrong path or anywhere for that fact!

nice edits by the way.

What? Fixing my spelling or re-wording something I thought didn't make sense? what's wrong with that?

I bought a Gold Sevrum about a year ago [he was about 1.5 inches]... he is now about 7".

They are great fish, but as they get larger, they are kinda territorial toward their own kind... I had my gold one and a green one in my 55gal, and had to get rid of the green one because the gold one had him totally stressed out all the time...

here's a pic of my gold one... [just so you know what you are getting into...]

I personally don't think a pond would be a very good idea, unless you are in an area that stays fairly tropical all year round...
