Fresh water or salt water? it makes a big difference as you can imagine. What setup have you got currently in terms of tank size, filtration etc.

To begin with read through all pinned topics in this forum and the tropical chat one. Make sure you have a good understanding of cycling as this is where many beginners go wrong. There's a link in my sig. explaining it. And please fishless cycle your tank before adding fish using the add & wait method from the link in my sig.

In that case head down to the tropical salt water forums from the main page. Theyre quite a long way down, I know nothing about setting up a saltwater fish but there are plenty of members down there who can help.
