I have bred bettas many times before, but none of the spawning has been as difficult as this one! The eggs have been here for about 2 days, so the babies should be coming soon... But my male betta is slacking off! There are about 10 or more eggs on the floor (of course there is no gravel on the floor) and he never goes down to the bottom so he never picks them up. When he does go down to the bottom, he tries to pick them up and always misses them, but he thinks he did get them and goes back to the top. When he does actually get some, he tries to put themback in the nest, but when he spits them up, they dont go in the nest, they just fall again! This time of breeding just isnt working out well... he used to do so well all the other times... what can i do? ????. Thank you sooo much everyone who helps. :)

Okay. You've made like 3 topics about the same thing and if you don't already know the answers to these things then you haven't done even close to enough research I gave you the answer in another topic you made and now you made another one? Its pointless you know if you ask the same questions over and over.

no one has given me an answer yet, so i have to keep trying... im not gonna give up and i do have enough info on breeding because i have bred bettas MANY times before and they worked out just fine. Just this one time i have a problem and you tell me that i dont know what im doing. I sorry, but i don't know what to say to you. I just really want to ask a question without getting someone yelling at me.

this is how i felt at another fish forums. everytime i asked a question people acted like i had no idea what i was doing and that i don't even deserve to have fish. well god dangit i own a flipping aquatic animal business and breed many aquatic animals, they should kinda relize that age don't matter when it comes to knowledge. so i know where your coming from.

it's just 10 eggs. and will it matter that mutch if they hatch on the bottom or can they not hatch on the bottom? i'm not really a betta expert. if you need to move them you could try very very carefully moving them up there with like a small tube or something?

if they are about pea sized, maby pick them up using an air tube and kinda keep them up by suckingin air and then put your finger on the top to not let them drop, then put them on the nest. although i have no idea if what i just said could completely be the stupidist thign a betta person have ever heard. just an idea. sorry i couldn't help more.

He may do better after they start hatching and swimming around. Some males mouths are just too upturned and they're not as skilled at picking them up. Or maybe they're not even fertilized. For now you can just leave them alone,and/or gently blow them with a turkey baster (not with air, with water).

ps good luck with the eggs :shout:

thanks everyone and the babies hatched! I think i only have about 20 or maybe more or less than that. But even though i didnt really get as much as I did all the other times, im still not giving up on these guys. :). But thank you so much everyone who helped.
