show her your stunted plec, then take her and show her a fully grown one and tell her they can grow to over 12 inches and would be the main show peice in your tank.

But never argue with anyone, it doesn't get you anywhere.

Simply ask her "Why". For every answer she gives you, give an explantion. If she still just doent bite, then try and convince her of something a little smaller.

Ask why, and give a good explanation about anything she says. When she won't have anything to say you know she is really fu**ed and then say that she hasn't got one argument not to get it and you have many to get it.

Common Plecs get to 20" not 12" Tell her that you're interested in breeding fish and that you can't do it with just the 20. Tell her that you can learn a lot about fish by taking care of as many as will go into a 55. Tell her that the plec is a massive waste producer and that he will overwelm the filter in the 20. Go into detail with the nitrogen cycle and talk over her head. Show her how much you know about fish and how sorry you are for the mistake you made when you put the pleco in the 20. Cry. Tell her that the fish will grow until his tail becomes deformed from resting against the glass. If he doesn't get a larger home he will suffocate in ammonia soup.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!! I conviced her to let me get it. I told her that I will be paying for it , the pleco will be more happy, and all that great stuff. And some more great news I'm only a few dollars short from being about to get the 55g kit at walmart. But the bad thing is once I get it I will have to wait to get more money to get a stand, a hood and light, gravel, fake plants, a new filter since I don't like the one that comes with it, the fish of course, more water dechloranator, and thats it I think. But that will cost some cash. So it may be a few months before I can get the rest of the stuff I need unless I get more money for x-mass. Unless you guys would like to donate some money to me.

Consider building your own stand, & hood with light. That will save money big time, and it's not all that hard to do. Instead of upgrading the filter, try adding an additional one. Natural looking gravel can be bought at a home improvement store, you just have to rinse it real good. It's much cheaper than lfs gravel. Large rocks can be bought at a landscaping outfit, much cheaper than a lfs. Plants, dechlor, & other aquarium related things can be bought online.

I do everything I can to stretch a dollar, you can buy more cool stuff that way.

Its not the filter it self I don't like. I want to seed the tank so I won't have to cycle the tank and wait 2 weeks and all my other filters are whisper power filters and the one that comes with it I believe its called aquaclear or something like that and I don't think you can use a different cartridge from a different filter for this one. I couldn't make my own hood and light I wouldn't know how to make that black hood that has the florescent light since I wouldn't know how to wire it. Also the only stand I could make myself would be a wood stand and I wouldn't think I could make it strong enough like the metal stands are. I would rather buy all the decor like gravel and stuff like that from a lfs since I know it has been styrlized and all that good stuff.
