Need Help Stocking My 75gal Community Tank!

sounds good but clown loachs like to be in groups :good:

Hey, you decided on a Severum! :good: They're awesome  Personally I would put only one sev in a tank that size - they are big guys and quite territorial! I mean they are great with other fish in their space but with another sev unless you had a proven pair it could be too small.

Have you thought about another cichlid, say a Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror or a few smaller ones such as Sajica, Cutteri, Firemouth, Geophagus Tapajos

May I ask you to consider columbian tetra instead of congos, I had a dilemma with these last week. Trying to choose between congos, coloumbians and buenos aires. We went with columbians, IMHO they are the better looking ;)

They have silver bodies and red fins, but they have this lovely iridescent blue stripe along their back. (further enhanced by the blue light on my tank B-) )

Hmm wouldnt the severum eat the smaller fish once it was fully grown? Or is it a peaceful fish.. Severum says they get to 12inches.. I have no reserached this, just curious.

Sevs will eat anything they can fit in their mouths but I dont think the tigers or congos would be a problem as they will get bigger than the sevs mouth. As said the clown loaches need groups but I think that there are other loaches better suited to a 75 than clowns with a max size of 12 inches each one would take up a lot of room in your eventual stocking.

What size tank is this is it a 4ft tall or is it a 6footer? I think if its a 4 just go with one sev. Any ideas which one you want to get? I really like heros notatius (sp) at the moment thinking of one for my future big tank.

Also with the BN plecs, is this preference or because you want small plecs? If you want these because you like them go for it but if you just want some small plecs there are tons of them that are just as easy to find that get to roughly the same size - if you look in the plec section here there is a list of plecs under 8 inches all of these are suitable for your tank. Also you could look at planetcatfish as they have a full library of all the L numbers including sizes.

Also I think you could have more cichlids in that tank if you wanted as well, how about some small eartheaters - like a small group of tajos or cupid cichlids these would work well with your sev I think and also your other fish. So maybe your stocking could be

1 Sev
4 Red head taujos
5 Yoyo loaches (or similar - kubutia, histronica,)
2 BN plecs (or similar sized if you like some others)
10 Columbian tetras (just my preference I prefer one big school)

hope its helped Wills :)

ps what kind of filtration do you have?

4 Red head taujos

sorry, I'm not picking at your spelling  do you mean tapajos? They are beautiful, I had one for a while but the other cichlids just wouldn't accept it so had to return it...

I agree with Wills's suggestion  although I would go for different plecs such as Imperial Tiger (L134?) or gold nugget. If you wanted BN as algae eaters I wouldn't really bother, but if you want them just cos you want them that's cool ;)

Definitely bigger shoals - helps keep aggression down between them too!

Yeah i do mean those ^^''' I always get the spelling of them wrong or cant remember them right - from what I have read they are quite a placid cichlid looking to get some in the coming weeks for my upgrade (I think)

Looks fantastic to me :) For filtration I would go with an external. You just cant beat them IMO easy to clean, bit more expensive but its money well spent in the long run. Popular external filter brands are Tetratec, Ehiem, Fluval and Rena. I would go with standard lights unless you want specific ones for plants or colours and for heaters if you fancy an external to keep the tank tidy they are cool otherwise you can easy add an internal to that tank though I think you will need a larger one or 2 medium ones.
