Don't know about dwarf cutters but generally male cichlids are larger and have longer more pointed dorsal and anal fins. Girl cichlids also look "prettier" less chunky, though you can only appereciate the difference when you see a pair. Next time you are in yout lfs, have a look at the cichlids especially if they have a mated pair.

Maybe someone else on this forum can give more specific information on this type of cichlid. Good luck!

Ok are your refering to <Archocentrus septemfasciatus>???

If yes then Mature males are larger and more brightly coloured, mature females have a dark spot on the dorsal fin and her lower back end will turn black with a large copper spot during spawning.

Taken from another source "Cutter Cichlid: Males are purple-brown coloured with red to purple fins, females have a pale pink to purple flush. Males also grow larger and have more pointed fins"
