HI there everyone

im new to all this and would really like a helping hand or brain. right here goes

i bought my new fluval tank just over a week ago. i added my gravel (washed in declorinated water) added my plants my heated and then my water(which was treated). ive been adding ammonia now for the last 4 or 5 days. ive got a api test kit. i boost my ammo up to 4 ppm then over night it reduces to 1ppm. i boost back up to 4ppm. ive tested for nirates and nitrites but get a reading of 0 on both.

my understanding was that if the ammo was being consumed then i should be able to see a reading of nitrites. then a reading of nitrates.

please help. ive printed out a fishless cycle instruction point list. which ive followed to the letter but im still a bit confused as to my im not getting a reading for nitrates or nitrites

thanks in advance

chris

I read up on the fish less cycle (because I've never done it before) it says it can take up to a month so just keep the ammonia up for a couple of weeks intill you get a nitrite reading. Then the rest should do by itself. I know it's hard but you have to be patient. Hope this helped. :good:

+1
There is also some interaction with heat, soil, plants, and pH that affect the cycle so it just takes time for the tank to sort it all out.
