Excellent pics SBS!

is this a way of sexing all rams? as im pretty sure what was sold to me as 2 males and 2 females may just be 4 males...

The signs I mentioned are most prevalent with M.ramirezi, a few of them such as finage and head stockiness etc apply to both, but the head stockiness really is a dubious one and is only most noticeable if you've kept them before.

Thanks Fluttermoth, excuse the big poo  it was the result of a rather large meal of blood worms.

Female:

Pink bellies, black on the ventral fins, generally the anal fin doesn't pass the base of the tail, a blue sheen on the black spot.

Male:

Stocky head, the first few dorsal spines are generally elongated, the anal fin generally passes the base of the tail, no black on the ventral fins, only grey and a solid black spot without a blue sheen.

If you can always get wild caught Rams, most tank bred individuals are poor quality.

Wow thanks :)
I will definetely be looking at the tank for a while

I voted null.

I have to say, i have owned a LOT of different species of fish, even ones i claimed to 'hate'... but the only three consistant 'i hates....' with worj and at home is Golfish, Guppies and Rams.

I had blues, golds, electrics etc and all of them turned out to be argumentative, puny, boring and just plain irritating to my other fish.

Deffo disslike em, plus they are are nearly always inbred to problematic levels,

Bolivian rams however, i do see as being more a small geophagus than a ram, they are amazing, not belligerant, olour up lovely and are cute! :good:

I would vote but my phone is being stupid.
If I COULD vote I'd go the gbr or electric blue.

Be careful when picking a 'pair' as I've just learnt they don't pair up with just any old fish. Currently have a male & female & I have had to put them in separate tanks for the time as the male is basically harassing the female to death. Look for fish that hang out together :)

Okay thanks :good:

I really like my Bolivians, one of my favourite fish. MA in Oxford have some utterly MASSIVE ones in stock at the moment, i hope mine grow to a decent size, they are ace :)

All the others, i would probably give a miss, too much care involved.

I saw them a couple of weeks back, was really surprised at how big they actually grow!
