hi guys i just noticed my male platy looking like this on the photo does anyone know whats wrong as i have him in a hatchery now so i can keep a eye on him

:( Looks like dropsy.... sorry... I don't think there's much you can do :(

thanks for reply can anyone else confirm and whats the best thing to do now

i thought dropsy was where fish swell as well as have the scales stick out??

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Poor thing he looks dreadful.

Do any of your fish look skinny, or bloated.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
Check and anus of all fish to see if it's enlarged, or red and inflamed.
Any worms protruding from the anus.
Any parasites beneath the raised scales.
Any lumps, or bumps beneath the scales.
Has the fish been flicking and rubbing.
Any fish darting around the tank.
Do any fish show signs of laboured breathing, or gasping.

Hi he's still going toliet and it looks normal colour like light grey there is no signs on the body of infection no enlarged anus or red, pH is around 6.5 to 7 ammonia at that time was 0 nitrite was 0 and nitrate was 10ppm I have 1 other male that looks like he is pregnant and he's not been toilet or had any food for a few days and does not swim a lot just floats at the back near the plants, no fish are darting around or having trouble breathing

I know people say that there's not much hope once dropsy starts, but I've managed to bring a fish back with severe dropsy, so it is worth a go. Did it by loads of fresh water changes (daily), and then doing daily salt dips. Good luck with him, I hope he pulls through!

Agreed, it's not good, but if you manage to remove the cause, it is reversible. Sadly it's often not easy to do.

I'm with Flute on trying several large water changes, clean water can be very good at healing ailments. You could try salt or general antibacterials. I'd certainly try something, especially if the other male doesn't look well.

What are you feeding your fish?

Once scales stick out it the last stage of dropsy, organ failure.

All you can do is epson salt baths.
Bacterial med in isolation.

Just wanted to make sure nothing else was causing the raised scales.

Hi guys I feed them freeze dried food sometimes frozen blood worm and tetra round multi vitamin biscuits

Freeze dried foods can lead to constipation, and bloating.
Soak the food first before letting the fish have it.
Don't over feed it.

Introduce some green veg into there diet.
Peas are good in there diet. Keep them going to the toilet.

That is for the info wilder what sort of peas, garden peas?
