Thanks terry. What should I do with the poor fish should I remove him from the tank or leave him and see how he's goes cos at the moment he's in the tank but in a hatchery as I don't have room for another tank to keep him in

Garden peas are good.

The problem with adding him back to the tank is that fish tend to have ago at sick fish,

Yea wilder that's why I removed him as I seen he was being bullied a little bit so I kept him in the tank but placed him inside the hatchery but I don't want to infect the rest of them if he has anything they could catch thanks again

Maybe its just me but... it doesn't really look like dropsy  (can you get other photos? ideally one from above?)

I couldnt say what it is... but to me it looks kind of like the really bad bacterial infections I see on koi a lot, it spreads under the scales and does make them look raised (but not sticking out or swelling like dropsy). That also makes the whole infected area look red (though never seen it to that extent!).

Personally I would be treating tank with an antibacterial medication anyway, especially if he is still in same tank.

I agree.
That why I wondered if something else was causing the raised scales.

hi guys just got home from work this morning and took this picture for you. im unable to get one from above as the pic is poor really. my g/f added some drops of esha 2000 last night so hopefully that will help? his back seems to do that once he's relaxed but not all the time

Is his tail bent.
Or just looks that way when taking the pic.

Esha 2000 not that good in my opinion, I find furanol by JBL to be a better med. But it knocks your tank water stats.

Could be an injury. Birth defect.
When I used to keep fish I had a platy with a bent tail. It never bothered her much.
