Hello,

I need some advise and pardon me if this question looked silly

I have about 5 large sponge filter and it use to be run in a tank and I have sold the tank but the buyer didnot want the sponge

The filter look like below

My question is how to sterilize the sponge and ensure no harmfull things in the sponge.

I planning to boil the black sponge. Does anyone know whether is it safe to boil the sponge and use it again in the tank?

I also have a bucket of seachem matrix and is it ok to boil this media and wash and put it back to the tank?

Thanks for any advise in advance

With regards to the sponges, just give them a good rinse in tapwater. Tapwater contains chlorine to kill bacteria so why not use it for what it was intended.

Soak in a bleach solution for at least an hour. Rinse thoroughly. Allow to completely air dry.
