Right, I have 3 pairs of Rams in my tank. There's some eggs!!!!! :D :D :D they're on a leaf and I need to know a few things.

It is a community tank. I have 4 Discus in there and 40 Cardinals. Would these eat the eggs/fry?

Also the tank is undergoing treatment for Ich at the moment, I suppose I don't have a choice but to keep doing it, but will the medication harm the eggs?

What should I do once/if they hatch? Take the fry out the tank? Keep them in?

It's the first time a fish I've owned has laid eggs. So excited!

Congratulations :good:

But i'd get the eggs out and into a seperate tank if u have it and in with the parents as your discus will prob eat the eggs given the chance and will certainly eat any fry that hatch.

Im not sure about the treatment TBH but I'd have thought it wouldnt be a good idea to be doing it at the same time as them being in there.

But if you have a small breeding/isolation tank to put them in that'd be your best chance i think. Or even get them in one of those net box things, put it at the top of the tank and set an air stone near it to mimic the water vibration that the parents would achieve.

Hope this has been helpfull and good luck :good:

Should I put both parents in the small isolation tank? Its no longer than 6" and 5" high. I have a 2 foot fish tank but if possible I'd prefer to get away with sticking these guys in the same tank. The female has been pecking at them this morning but I can't see any losses, so I presume this is a cleaning method.

Thank you btw! I'll try keeping you posted :)

Yeh, i'd stick both parents in initially, I'm not too sure how good a parent rams actually are, you may need to remove them once the eggs start to hatch, bit I'm sure there's someone here that can give you some better advise on this. Just remember to cover the filter with something so the little dudes don't get sucked in. Iv read on this forum of folk usin a tights to cover the inlet of the filter.

I have a sponge filter :) should be okay with that.

Rams aren't very good parents, often eat the first few lots of eggs they get. I may just leave this one and see what happens, at least I know the tank conditions are good for it :) there's lot if hiding places too.

If the eggs hatch, I'll consider this a success! Lol. Thanks for all your help! :)
