I saw a picture of someone's Tank with cement blocks and wood frame (can't remember the link =. ), and I would like to know if anyone have pictures or even better steps to attempt at on, I would love to attempt at a simple stand for my upcoming 55g Tank. :shout:

For your standard 4' long 55 gallon, I would use 6 columns of blocks, 3 across the front, 3 across the back. That way you have your 4 corners supported, along with the center. Use at least 3/4" plywood across the top, pressure treated will last longer.

If you have a tank designed like All-Glass tanks, where all the weight is supported by the edge, you could just put treated 2x4's around the edge on the block columns.

Thx for the replies ;) , and great site there garf.org...but about the Breeze blocks...is that the best blocks and is it necessary...just surfed by this link with some pictures...

...possible to build it like that, but would it be recommended?...or is the Breeze Blocks topped with wood be best...

...and yes it is an All-Glass tank.

It all depends on the budget you have, & the look desired. Looking at that link, it is a low stand, low tanks are tough to siphon, I have a few. Bring it up so the bottom is at least knee high to make your life easier.

The garf design is a strong stand, you could build a basic stand off of that design, and skin it at a later time. Cinder blocks are cheap & easy, and you could always pick up some fabric in the future to make a skirt to hide the blocks.
