It's around 2" stays on the top most of the time and is very fast.

thanks diademhill for the ID :good: . Also what is the best way to catch small fish out of a 180 gal. tank? It took me 50 mins to catch 2 platies and 2 glow-light tetras :S .

Thats going to be a tough one! Maybe try a bigger net, if the one you have is small. And don't worry about getting other fish in the net with the one you're trying to catch, because you can always put them back in. As long as you also have the one you want you'll be good. :good:

I know it's pitiful advice but it's all I could think to say. Are you taking these guys home if you can catch them, Mikaila?

Squid, if I remember properly from a thread a while back, she helps take care of the fish at her school and they have a big tank there.

Use 2 nets. One larger one to catch them and one smaller to scoop them out of the first net. The biggest thing to remember is not to chase them with the net. You can also try and guide them calmly with your hand into the net but with a 180 gallon tank that will be pretty much impossible. You will probably need to remove all decorations out of the tank.

Thanks, I will try those methods :good: . most of the fish i'm catching are being moved to other tanks so their present tank mates don't eat them. There's still 3 glow light tetras in the 180 that have to come out :sly: .

Here are 2 more I need ID

The way I catch hard to grab fish is get them while you're doing a water change (less water, less place to swim away!) This was how I managed to grab a feeder guppy ( about ---- sized) out of a four foot tank. Works every time, or at least helps a whole lot.

The make tank deviders that you could purchase. Make the tank smaller with these, so that the fish have less space to swim in. The smaller the area the easier it will be to catch them

yup, and if you don't wanna shell out for proper tank dividers you can use those plastic condensation tray's they sell, only cost you a quid or two, they work as makeshift dividers if need be.

If I'm struggling I'll take the decorations out of the tank so no hiding places, can even take the heater, filter etc out temporarily if they're hiding behind them. reduce the size of space they have to hide in, with dividers or by taking water out. Then use 2 nets, don't chase it, just sort of guide it into 1 net using the other one.

:)

I "think" that the tetra is a head and tail light tetra.

No , im pretty sure its a red eye tetra . i have two in my tank as part of a larger tetra shoal :good:

the tetra is either hemigrammus plucher or hemigrammus ocellifer is what i think.

the rainbow fish i guessing is either glossolpeis incisus if it used to be really red or at least it should be or it's melanotaenia splendida rubrostriata. 2nd fish i suggested i'm thinking it's not that but it's the only other rainbow i can think of with red in it.

:good:
