could people add details of tank decor that can be collected and put into the home aquarium. how to prepare them and what possible effects it may have on water quality. what tree branches, what leaves, rocks, etc

You can use 'hard' rocks (granite, slate, pebbles from the beach etc) as long as they don't have any metals running through them - you'd see this as a coloured stripe, usually red which is iron. Just give them a wash and scrub in really hot water and they should be fine. Don't use 'soft' rocks like limestone and sandstone as they will dissolve and affect your ph.

You can also use branches from hardwood trees as long as they are dead and dry and you remove the bark and give them a good wash first. They may leach tannins but that's harmless. Don't use woods like pine as the natural oils/sap is poisonous.

I'm sure everyone else has plenty of suggestions too :)

the tree thing will help me too i live in a woods and i cant afford bog wood so as u sed no pine so thats gone
the other woods in the woods is oak, sycamore, horese chestnut

also sorry to high jack the thread but what if the barcks already off the tree do i take a layer of wood off? do i have to soak it for a long time?
