Paging through a catalog and ran across this stuff. "Time released CO2 for your planted freshwater aquarium. This non-toxic liquid additive enhances ability of plants and microbes to obtain nutrients and energy fro water and light. Transports vital nutrients and CO2 to plants, Will not cause pH shifts. No need for CO2 cylinders, controllers, or monitors. Reduces need for fertilization."

Sounds like what I've been looking for, but is it too good to be true?

Your question got me curious. While I have heard the name Marc Weiss, I have never even considered using any of his products. So using our trusty friend Google I poked around and quickly ran across the following thread on the AGA site. The most interesting thing in the thread were comments by Tom Barr about the product. You can read it all here http://forum.aquatic-gardeners.org/viewtopic.php?t=645

My impression is your final comment hit the nail on the head.

as above really, i have never used the product, but read nothing but bad reviews on it. This is probably the reason why no body uses it.

Why not go for Flourish Excel or Easycarbo??

I use Excel now, but my plants are still less than, well, yours, Ian! Just trying to find a way to add the delicious CO2 without forking out for the whole system. Which is probably like trying to instantly cycle my tank with bacteria in a bottle!

you won't regret buying a C02 system if you're serious about plants. It can be done really cheap...

How cheap? Can you direct me to sources to read up on? (Wow, that's bad English!)

over here, you would look around £80 for a set up, i'm unsure how much it would be across the pond.

heres what you'd need.

I take offense to that. ;)

Well, yeah, I do take offense. How many tanks have I had over the past almost 7 years in Planted that have grown lush, healthy plants without CO2 injection? So I'm not serious about plants? I don't thinks so. He's making a generalization that's incorrect & I have no qualms calling Mr. Ian on it. :)

That being said, if you do go the route of CO2 injection or liquid carbon usage, which I also don't mind either, having used it myself, I'd stick with products that are tried and true. Easycarbo and Excel have done very well. Yeast works great for small tanks too. Pressurized is the best option for larger tanks, but having CO2 doesn't make you serious about plants. Growing healthy plants does. :)

Well said Liz :)

i'm sorry but i think this has been taken totally out of context!!

My knickers are not in a twist. I stand by what I said, and I'm just as serious about planted tanks as you. But you are right, I'm finished with this topic, the op has the information needed.

OK, I am serious about plants, and I read with a bit of horror about the CO2 systems. I'd rather not risk life and limb for a bit of greenery. So I guess I'll just stick with Flourish and hope for the best. This all made for quite an interesting read, though!
