Hello all. I love small tanks. They really appeal to me because of the different possibilities and how easy they are to make and care for. (And take down if necessary!) You can also have so many in your house.

I had one, but now it houses a betta. I will be making a .5 gallon one soon with RCS or Orange Shrimp.

I want to see yours! Post them here with the fauna and the plants. I am crazy for these tanks!

Heres my old tank:
2 gallons

I would not put any fish, shrimp, snail etc in a 1/2 gallon

How about a 4 or 5g instead?

I have seen some really nice small tanks. Shrimp only, not fish. IMO shrimp are great for these small tanks. As I said, I love micro tanks because of the small size. I cant get a 4-5 g anymore.

If you cant get even a 4-5g why are you going with that itty tank? You can easily get a 2.5g

Ive kept a betta in a 1/2g, and I rpomised myself never to keep anything else in one.

How are you going to filter it? What about heat it?

I never wanna keep anything in a tank under ~1 foot in every direction.

I personally think shrimp can thrive in small environments. But they need to be done right.

Shrimp are great for micro tanks. Some micro fish do ok in them too

Looking forward to seeing it progress

Id look into removing the rick and adding more plants maybe mosses.

I kinda created this thread for others to share theirs if they have any. I want some inspiration!

I put 3 of my shrimp in my 1/2 gallon bowl for prespective, its mean.

This isnt a wide bowl, and if you are wondering why I have it, my betta was in it, but now he is in a 15g tank, with the shrimp. I kept it so I can slowly add water to my tank when I do a water change.

Why even bother with a tank this small? If you can go bigger then a 2.5g, then dont get fish or shrimp, or snails. Whats the point? They are hard to maintain, if something goes slightly wrong, the whole thing crashes.

People bother because its a challenge, and seeing a well put together nano tank is beautiful..

You dont want to do it then dont, simple really. I like the challenge, i like doing nanos, so will continue to do so

Nano tanks are one thing.  Containers of less than a gallon are another and I do not consider them in any way appropriate to house any living thing. Even with only shrimp I would go no smaller than 2 gallons.  I like nano tanks especially when done correctly.  They are a beautiful sight to behold so don't think I am bashing the whole "nano tank" idea.  I believe you just need something bigger than half a gallon to do it in.
