Random question alert!!

I've got to do a spelling error analysis for some writing that one of my kids did. He has written about his pet an axolotl but he has spelt it incorrectly and as I'm assessing him for dyslexia I need to analyse all spelling errors so I need to know if he sounded out the word but I'm not absolutely sure how you pronounce the word!! Is it like

"oxy lot al" or is it "axy lot al" or something completely different???

Thanks!

I've always pronounced it axe-oh-LOT-l with the stress on the lot syllable and the otl pronounced as in bottle.
That's how my biology teacher pronounced it (in the 1960s) so that's the way I do.

Thanks for the info

The reason I wondered if it had an "o" sound at the beginning is that he has written o as the first letter of the word - as it's obviously an "a" sound at the beginning it means my job just got a lot harder and he knows even fewer of his letter sounds than I thought :blink:

Ho hum - back to work!!
