sincerely Annika & Taija /Finland

Family: Bagridae
Maximum length: ~40 cm
Temperament: Schooling predator; safe with fish of similar size (e.g. monos and scats)
Distribution: Southern Asia and parts of Southeast Asia
Occurrence: Primarily in estuaries
Salinity: 1.000 to 1.010, possibly higher, though maybe not permanently
pH: 7.5-8.0
Hardness: Moderately hard to very hard
Food: Anything organic from pellets to small fish (in the wild even carrion and sewage)
Notes: An uncommon species in the aquarium hobby, but an excellent choice for tanks containing Southeast Asian brackish water fish. Discussed in detail in the Aqualog book and also in my brackish water aquarium book. Basically similar to Colombian shark catfish in maintenance and behaviour. Cultured as a food fish in brackish water pools with things like snapper and tiger prawns. Common in pure freshwater and sometimes found in the sea. A classic example of how adaptable catfish are, and proof that catfish aren't "allergic to salt"!
Fishbase: Go here

Cheers,

Neale
