I have just cleared all my fish of white spot. at first i used a med that contained malachite green but with absolutely no effect. i first of all changed 40% of my water raised the temp to 80 degrees and added the med which was absolutely rubbish, far to weak to kill of the bugs, this med contained the malachite green. So I researched the topic more thoroughly and was impressed by results from another chemical that contained methylene blue which had an amazing effect on the parasite. again i done a 40% change in water raised the water temp to 82 degrees this time and then added the methylene blue, 3 days later all signs of the ich were gone and i then changed 20% of the water and again added the treatment, this was a week ago and stil no sign of the dreaded ich. i have just done another water change and used the treatment and hopefully will add my carbon filter back again next week. Methylene blue is wonderful as a treatment against ich with no side effects to the fish.
