after spending nearly 200 quid we decided to take it all home and build it up, with us never owning a fish tank before we were pretty clueless to maintiing 1 other than what we asked in the shop, so we built up the tank and filled it with water, waited eaglry for 7 days till we bought some fish, had 2 deaths in our first week, i presume due to amonia and nitrate levels been to high, so we went out and bought some test kits a ph , amonia, and nitrate , along with a bottle of water safe to reduce amonia and nitrate, since we have nad no more deaths, anyway heres a list of the fish and some pics

1 x angel fish (1 died)
2 x black widow
3 x silver shark
1 x black red tailed shark
1 x plec
1 x cat fish
4 x guppy 2 small 2 bigger ones

Hello and welcome.. Your pictures are not working.. Sorry to say but that sounds like a lot of fish for a 60ltr tank..

yeh ive since been told that i maybe have to many fish :/ like i said im new to this ive done a little research and now been taking 25% of the water out every 2 days to reduce the amount of amonia im currently in the middle of setting up a new 5 foot tank ill try fix the pictures now my web space seems to be having problems

Eeash! Horrible stock! I cannot believe how mis-informed people are, it seems lately people keep coming in with horribly stocked tanks! Angelfish will need at least 29 gallons. Silver Sharks can get to be almost 2 feet long, and will need a tank of at least 75 gallons. What type of pleco? It is most likely going to be Common, and will need something like a 75g (could be bigger.) We need to know what type of other Catfish, and the 6 you don't know. Did you cycle the tank? Red Tailed Catfish will need bigger, I think it's 30 gallons, they reach a length of half a foot. Neons need to be in groups. mollies live better in Brackish (semi saltwater.) Return the fish. If you haven't cycled the tank, do so. Check my link below for some information. After you have cycled the tank, we will set you up with some proper fish, that won't get too big. Also, do not take any LFS information for a grain of salt. Most of these people are only there to take your money, and don't know half of anything about fish keeping!

Please don't take this too badly, it's not your fault you were mis informed. Don't worry lots of people come to the forum with the same kind of knowledge and tank set ups as you. The best thing to do is take our advice, and if you need any encouragement talk to Azzman, he had to re-home almost all of his fish also, because of bad LFS (local fish store) information...

Nice post, the only thing wrong is silver sharks (aka balas) only get up to 14 inches, more commonly 12. :)

Just read you haven't cycled the tank. :( You really should do it, it will work better then using chemicals to reduce the Ammonia and Nitrites. Instead of a chemical to take it out, bacteria will do the job in it's place.

Interesting... I have heard Bala sharks (Balanteocheilus melanopterus) get anywhere from 14-16 inches... I guess it is a little smaller

LOL Bala sharks MAX in the wild at 14" no where near two feet! :p but still too large and skittish for the aquarium really.

DOH my bad!

They grow to 137' eat babies alive and kill penguins for fun, they are also responsible for global warming and the cold war...

:>

Oh and they are the reason that men go bald and they steal one sock from every pair....

LOL sorry could not resist!

You may now call me a saddo!

sorry to hijack but i never cycle my tanks or us any chemicals to cycle it i set up the tank one weekend then put the fish in the next wekend and i have never had any deaths doin it like that

Well, this is a way of doing it. There is nothing wrong with it exactly, except that it is very hit and miss. If it works GREAT! but if it doesnt, all your fish are dead. So its up to you.

When I first strated in the hobby, i used to buy the tank and everything, set it up for a day, next day start adding fish, but now I dont like to take that risk.
