My Tnk Has Come :)

just had a look at the 6500 not a bad price, :good: athough it is far more than i wanted to spend  but if the MJ dont work then it may have to be them. i have a bit of the same feeling that the maijets will not have the power, but people keep telling me they will do the job. i am going to run a wet test in about a week or so, that will have every thing but the sump tested. but i can't wait to see what, if anything these UGJ are goning to do LOL . but only time will tell. then after that is done it will be time to make a weir for the overflow :-( this is were you guys will come in LOL , told you you would grow to hate me LOL :). any way i was too lazy to do anything in the tank tonight as i had to paint the roof in the lounge :( . will get back on it with some more pics soon :)

many thanks lads, ROB

Even using 4 x Maxijet 1200 in tank rarther than on a Closed Loop System they would fall way short of having enought punch to provide enought flow for that size of tank

125 UK G = 680 litres

A flow rate of 20x the tank volume = 20 x 125 G or 20 x 680 = 2500 GPH or 13600lph

(20x IMO is around the minimum mark)

Your 4 Maxi's would only deliver 4400lph - which is only a turnover rate of 6x

Now if you start adding straight piping over a lenght & bends your maxi's will start to loss head pressure & will have no power at the outlets, this will bring your 6x turnover down ago

The other concideration is the amount of outlets you have as well as each one will try to maximize the amount of flow it expels leaving the next with less & so on

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :look:

yea the out put as you move away from the power head was the main problem , i have made the holes close to the PH far smaller than the ones in the center. to try to get the same flow rate out of each head.

i have other PH"s gong in the tank too , so these will not be the only ones to turn over the tank, thinking of some of the sileo (that is not how you spell it :D) . i don't know if you know but i am staying fish only, dont want any coral. well not anytime soon, the fish is what i am doing this for. on the tank there will be a fluval Fx5 as well think this pumps about 2500 LPH, the return from the sump of about 3,000. and the skimmer is about 1300 LPH i think so there should be bit of movement in there :)

many thank once again :) :good:

If you take your Sump Return, External & the 4 Maxijets, that will give you a flow rate of around 15 x the tank volume = which is ok

What you have to remember thought is that you will be getting little or no flow out of the Closed Loop System due to the little amount going in over a large CLS so that 15x will maybe be closer to 10x (or less), which isn’t really that much IMO

The best thing to do is when you do a Wet Test on the piping, give the Maxi's a try & put your hand over the outlets

Ps - Skimmers flow doesn’t count as part of your tank circulation/flow

If your spraybar doesnt work out for you, you seem pretty handy... May I suggest checking out mjmods.com to modify those maxijets for LOTS of flowrate :hey:

yea i have looked in to doing the MJ mod and like the idea around it, and i think that is what i will do.

also i am going to fit two of the new maxijet newjet 3000 range to my UGJ's in the hope that these will do the job . TThey pump about 3000 LPG so i think two of them should do the job for me. well i hope any way :)

many thanks rob

Also do you think that these will work or do you still think i will need more power :shout: . i still think it is going to look like a blender with all these pumps yurned on

I still think you will struggle to get what you should be getting out of that CLS

If it were me I would opt for 1 of the larger External Deltec Pump (or 2 of the smaller ones)

They are better quality & far superior than Ocean Runners & a world ahead of Maxi's

Also they are respectively cheaper to run than most pumps of the same size

they look like they will cost the world. of which i do not have :( anyway thanks for the heads up :) :good: . think i will give it a ga with these new jet thingys. i am flowing about 5000 LPH, at the end of the day fish poo ant that heavy :)

many thanks rob :)

Fair enough mate but you are still 8500lph short

keep us updated :good:

its well worth the extra movement even though its a little more money, i bought one of the seio and its fab!! does a great job so id get another one of them if the power heads are enough for your under gravel contraption :D

well i have just placed my order for these two pumps, can't wait to see what they will do, if anything LOL. also the back of the tank is now painted black :) . not got any pics of that yet but will get some soon . hopping to get it wet by next week also hoppping to hang the MHs this thursday 8) i so cant wait , then all i have to do is my weir and my sump (going to need a bit of help on that one :) )

many thanks for all your help , but you know i will need more more more !. once agine thanks :D

well i got my two pumps today. hooked them up at home in the bath. :hyper: "F" me these things fow some huge amount of water, i put them into my bath (not holding them) and pluged them in holy crap the empted the bath all over me  . so after a change of top and pants i went back to them. this time armed with my loving girley and a cammera. pic are below, i knew they would flow some water but it is unreal how powerfull these things are, i think i will have to do something so that fish will stay away or they will get sucked into them  . anyway i have NO :good: question that these things will do the job that they have been bought for, i will also be running the maxijets at the back of the tank for extra flow, then pos a stream, but we will have to see.

What is the flow ratings on the Newjets ?

Just remember that although the look powerfull in the bath - when connected the your CLS you will have to take into concideration 'head lose pressure' & bends, but fingers crossed that the newjets do the trick - you could try capping off an outlet or 2 if the flow is less than you want

at the end of the day fish poo ant that heavy :)

The main reason for a higher flow in Marine tanks (over trops) isnt to keep detritus suspended but more to 'feed' the colonising bacteriaon your live rock

A very low or no flow will only result in liverock with very little life on/in it

3000 lph :good: , each

well i have spent the best part of the night fitting my new pumps. first thing first was to shorten all the pipe work and then fit the pipe work to the pumps in a snug fit :).

fitting of pipe work.
as the pipe that i am using is 22mm, i have found that no item of fish related products  use this output size, so my way around it was to mod the out put tube from the pump. to do this i cut off the reducing nossel, so i was left with the larger section. i then placed a sliced cut down the side of the 22mm pvc pipe, and then one more cut, offset by about 4 mm but converging at apoint. then heated the pipe with a heat gun, and then slowly pushed the 22mm pipe work into the pump output hose, and hey presto :) cheap and easy :good: i then cut in a small 45 deg cut off the end wall of the pipe to help increase water movement  . i have also done a bit of modding in side the pump as well :fun: so i hope this shoud help up the flow a bit more, but i will have to test this out first be fore i put any pics up

you can just see the cut at the back of the pipe

this is the now 19 mm pipe pushed in to the pump nossel, you can also just make out the 45 deg cut
DSC02040.jpg

the next step was just to make the pipe a bit shorter to allow the new pump to fit in as it is a whole lot bigger than the two maxijets (as you can see from a few pics) . aslo the back of the tank is now Black :D

many thanks :good: rob :)

I'm really interested to see if this works out for you. Looks really cool so far :)
