ok my fish tank seems to have gotten a new magical trik. I added a bunch of new neon tetras to my fish tank on monday. I can now only find half of them. Would a King Tiger Plec eat them? Is the only thing i can think of that would be able to eat them (physically dimension wise speaking).

Neons are quite a fragile fish and not as hardy as many think, they can and do die very quickly after being re-housed, my guess is they are dying and your Plec is eating the remains. I doubt very much if he's killing them though.

same happened to me and they just neaver turned up i judt dont bother with them anymore as they seem to die quicker than i can put em in

Jumbo Neons seem to be a tad more robust than the stock little versions.

filter is a Eheim 2212 internal with no fish bits found.

i had a really good bout with the first group of neons, added 6 and 6 survived for 8 months. the pop eye which popped claimed one and another got its head stuck in the motor prop of a pump (no longer in tank (both fish and pump)) and as I only had 4 left, decided to up the group to 10. but the local store had 10 for £5, thought what the hay. 1 died on t'way home another died in... well stress from rehoming really. I now seem to be down to 5 or 6 young ones (a bit difficult to count when there is as many.)

the plec eating the remains would make sense, it does happen in the dark at night....

Are you buying your fish from a local fish store or a big chain store? It sounds like the fish aren't very healthy when you purchase them if they die on the way home. :( Maybe look for another store if you keep having this problem.

it is a local fish store, though often its tanks are left a little to be desired for. TBH I am not surpised that a few of them have died.

I support the theory of the neons dying and the plec eating the remains every tank with plecs and a dead fish there is always a crowd of plecs on the remains
