thought id repost this here, might get a bit more attention :p

today i started the work on rescaping my tank, i wanted a different look, i wanted to give my scape some height and wanted it to have a lush planted look (which is still im still in the process of). i drained out the whole tank and saved as much of my old water as i could. i put my remaining 1 fish in a bucket with the filter and heater and the plants (my other espei rasboras had died of for unknown reason), i then took out as much sand as i could and pushed the dirt to the left side of the tank to make a slope coming down from the left side, then i put the sand back on top of the dirt.

i began to put my hardscape in place which i am quite pleased with for once, i recently went out and found some nice rocks to scape my tank with, here is a pic of the hardscape

whilst i was out looking for rocks i picked up some wood too, but i decided against using it because i didnt know if it was safe or not, i just picked a piece out of the few i already bought.

in with the remaining plants i have, cryptocoryne pondederifolia. also have loads of baby java ferns that need to be added and a bit of cryptocoryne balansae but that doesnt seem to be growing for me :(

so far so good i think :)
started to fill my tank and look what has happened

oops hehe, that will be because of the dirt and sand! well im just waiting on it to clear now so i can add in the baby java ferns and the crypt balansae hopefully it will decide to grow nicely for me :) i'll put up another pic when its cleared and been topped up.

and dont worry i will be getting my lonely espei rasbora lots of espei friends, probably this weekend. he's been on his own for a while but seems to be holding out well though :) i was also thinking of getting some kuhli's but had been thinking maybe a betta would look good in this setup when its been planted out properly

any suggestions for some foreground plants, i wanted something that is thin leaved, i was thinking of crypt willisii, any other suggestions. im not quite sure what plants will go in the back, i want to try vals again but last time they didnt grow for me just slowly died off, but that was before i had a dirt substrate, maybe that would make a difference in growth.

im trying to keep an asian theme to my tank so any plant suggestions for a medium light dirt set up would be great :D

Really liking the rock and wood placement they look natural, looking forward to seeing it closer to completion keep up the great work. I'll be watching hehe :D

thankyou very much :)! i've moved it around so much think im finally getting the hang of scaping though :D i cant wait till its done myself :D will updating this with some more pics tomorrow :)

quick update!

tank is full and now cleared up, gave my filter a good clean, dont think its ever been working as good as it does now :')
black background on, and baby java ferns are in place (and so are all the floaty bits of java fern all over the place lol), now i play the waiting game, i swear i've had them for months now, but they're not growing, oh well if all else fails i might give bolbitis heudeloti a go instead :)

i feel as if i can actually start to look into my tank and enjoy what i see :) where as before i disliked it!

will be taking a trip to my lfs later on to pick up a few background plants, i'll post more pics when they've been planted :)

Some tall grass like plants would look great in there as background, its really coming together and the plants make it 100x more appealing just get some more in there ;-) awesome job

thanks alot ross :) i just hope that those java ferns dont take forever to grow, im a tad impatient lol :p
i was thinking of some vals for my tank, but i was thinking hygrophila difformis for the back left corner then an amazon sword or 2 to go next to the hygro, then i was gonna go along the rest of the back with vals like down the back of the slope kind of thing :)

i was thinking of getting some dwarf sagittaria to put across the front of the rocky part :) i've been thinking id love to get a betta again :) but then again i want a decent sized school of fish and last time i had that combination the betta picked on the other fish :( any suggestions for stock? i almost definately want to get some kind of rasbora, probably espei or heteromorpha unless i find something else i really like :)

IMO A whole row of amazon swords would look superb at the back I've had my swords for a while now and recently they've grown huge and look really dense when planted close to each other. I wouldn't bother with a betta unless he's going to be the only one in there. I've kept 4 betta's and they all bullied other fish no matter how peaceful they we're.

yeah that sounds quite good now you mention it :)! hmm i think they are nice looking fish and interesting to watch, but they can be nasty bullies :(

nice tank and all but please dont do all this hard work and good effort for 1 betta  :p :) lol what stocking you gonna go for? a shoal of white cloud minnows would look quite good

haha i dont think i could have just a betta, i like to have an active tank. i've been looking at WCMM but i think im gonna stick with a bunch of espei rasbora as i've kept them before they're brilliantly coloured and not too hard to look after either :) might stick a couple of oto's in there too, im not sure yet though, wanted to keep to an asian theme but cant really think of any bottom dwellers suitable for my tank size.

otos are awesome glad your not gonna bung 1 very happy betta in there lol :hyper:

i've never kept oto's, but i still love em :D i've been thinking, stock with 2 or 3 otos, and around 10 espei rasbora's although i've been looking into different tetra's too like the silver tip, the glowlight or head and tail lights, theres too many fish to choose from :) haha
