Hi

My current tank was only temporary as the glass was in a bad way all scratched and not big enough.

So I set out to quickly get a new one, with my bedroom nearly complete I want it to match so iv sprayed it gloss White/black.

It's a juwel rio 125, with a fluval internal filter as the original didn't cone with it, have to say it's amazingly quiet!!

Anyway, iv today put the sand and water in and a bit of old media to begin cycle...

Iv not yet put all my stones/wood in yet, I will be doing this later in the week.

I will be having plants along the background.

Hope you like the pics...

Looking good so far buddy. Look forward to see your cycle results. :good:

Good job, Ez..It's all beginning to take shape :good: I am in the starting of a Cycle myself. Have you decided what fish you would like

Hi... Thanks both.

Yes I'm going to be transferring my current stock making my exsistung tank redundant.

Cardinal tetras
German blue rams
Plec

Will add more in a few months :)

i would leave it to soak even longer mate, until its cycled fully, it will pay off if you want to recude the tannins discolouring the water :)

Ah good stuff, it can take years sometimes to stop leaking, right pain!

How discolored was the water it was soaking in?

If it is dark, I would keep soaking it. If it was a barely noticeable discoloration (extremely weak tea color) then you should be fine to drop it in now). Tannins will still leach out, but not as fast. If it gets too dark, just do a big water change to remove it. Another option is Purigen by Seachem. It removes chemicals from the water and would be great at removing the tannins. (unlike other materials, Purigen claims that it won't leach anything back into the tank, once its full.)

Thanks guys, I did the sane process to the wood in my existing and all is good!

The water was virtually crystal when I took it out!!

Wondering as you do lol can I add plants during cycle, I added mine after in my existing tank but curious if I can add them now?

I've read that you can but I've also been advised that it is simpler to wait. Ammonia plus light = algae. ;)

Yea, it won't be for acouple of weeks but just wanted to get them settled before I transferred my fish

So I have cut some more slate up stuck some together and made this;

I will be adding some plants this week too

Hope you like.....

Any ideas on plants?

I'm going to transfer my java fern, and was thinking of trying to grow som moss on the slate, apart from that though I'm stuck!?

All opinions appreciated...

The plant question really is determined by the lighting you have. What are the bulbs, and how many? I have very low light, so I stuck with anacharis, amazon swords and some anubias. Eventually I am looking to add some java fern and maybe some mosses and cryptocorynes. These plants would work for you I'm sure; but depending on your lighting, you probably have some much different options available as opposed to what I am limited too.

I like the cave look - as you can see i my sig! ;)

With that sand substrate, I highly recommend some cories! Mine love the sand in my tank, and they love to stay under the caves during the day, but become very active at night. Coincidentally, I found 3 eggs in my anacharis plants this morning. I don't think they are fertilized, but they are still a positive sign to me.
