My Tank And Inhabitants

I've just ordered a 30" x 18" x 18" to replace this, but thought I'd share the pics nonetheless.
Here's the tank after week 1 (end of March):

Again, four weeks later:

One of the Centromochlus pergugiae (male)

Corydoras reynoldsi

Chaetostoma milesi (passed away earlier this week )

Possibly Dolichancistrus sp`colombia` (more images required for ID)

I also have a Chaetostoma sp1, Pseudolixothus dumus, and I'll be getting another P. dumus in the next few days.
I'm have ordered 3 tatia galaxias (1M/2F hopefully) which will be arriving at the end of this month, but the new tank will be in place by then.

Agreed, yes, they are great little fish. I have 5, 2 males and 3 females. I love to watch them feed, which they do madly when frozen bloodworm goes in after lights out. I have also seen them take broken tablet pieces and small pellets. They don't get so excited about black mosquito larva or daphnia.

Awesome! I used to have 5, but now I have 3 (2M, 1F) and they have bred for me before (without me even trying).

Can't wait to hear about the galaxias. Are you in the US? I haven't seen any Tatia other than perugiae for sale, online or in the store.

I have seen pictures of babies but apparently they are even more light shy than the parents, and guess need a species only tank to guarantee some success - congrats on your spawn theough - was there any paricular thing that triggered it?

I have only seen the perugiae once, so snapped up 5. I have not seen them since. My only real 'want' now is Liosomadoras oncinus, but trying to get my hands on a small specimen is proving difficult. I have been offered several 4-5" specimens, but want a small one to start with which I can grow on.
I saw the galaxias listed online from a well known UK fish chain and have managed to get some shipped to a more local branch to me for collection. I've not seen them, so they could turn out to not be galaxias, but am ever hopeful that they have been ID'd correctly. Sexing is apparently similar to the perugiae, but with the fact that males have an elongated upper caudal lobe. The manager at the store who has them at present has promised to try and pick out three for me, hopefully 1M/2F. They are apparently about 2 - 2.5" at present.

I think a water change with cool water triggered it, but I'm not sure. I was actually breaking down the tank and i picked up the driftwood in there and a bunch of tiny baby catfish swam in a hurry! Unfortunately, since I wasn't planning on the spawn, the babies didn't survive, but it was still a cool experience.

Liosomadoras oncinus are nice fish, I have one myself. I don't know how one in your tank would react, but in mine, I never ever see it out. It's more light shy than any of my other catfishes. With the cover in your tank, though, you should see it more often.

Good luck with the galaxias. I hope they come in as the right species, but any cool Tatia would be nice (imo). I just wish they were more available here in the US.

That's the plan! I don't mind too much - they are just one of my most favourite fish. The only other favourite is Megalodoras uranoscopus, but obviously way too big - still think they are fantastic fish.

I popped over to see if the fish had arrived - three had been sent, but due to a sticky room thermostat, the temperatur had rocketed to 35C, so only one survived. As it happens it's not T. galaxias anyway - it's a female T. intermedia. I have given it a home anyway, but will need to make sure that it does not over compete for food as they are less nocturnal than the perugiae. It seems that the entire stock of mixed galaxias/intermedia marketed as galaxias were in fact all intermedia. Next time, I'll only purchase fish I can see first hand!
