I have been meaning to start this thread for years, (literally).

Here is my German Shepherd Phoebe (Also referred to as Pheebz, Dweeb, Fifi ...the list goes on).

She is quite a character and is well known (and loved) by everyone she meets, and this is why..

At the time, my sister was a veterinary nurse, who was working a usual shift when a young puppy was brought in that had been badly injured. It was reported by the people who brought her in that she had been used as 'bait' or practice for dogs used in dog fighting. She had been held from the front whilst dog(s) attacked her from behind. She was in such a state, that the RSPCA had said for her to be put down. Thankfully, the people at the vets decided otherwise and my sister (we already had two dogs at the time) said that she would rehouse her if she survived. She went through countless surgeries on a weekly basis to try and fix the damage. In the process she lost her tail and one of her hind legs, but they continued in their efforts to save her. It was at this point (knowing that she'd survive) that she was named Phoebe, partly because of liking the tv show 'Friends' and telling our other two dogs that they were getting a new friend, but more because she was a referred to as the 'threebie freebie', so the name was obvious really.

As you've probably guessed, a happy ending. Like I say, we have had her for 8 years now and she is the most special thing in my life. For the first two or three years, she was so fearful of people that she would cry and whimper if you tried to stroke her, and would shake with fear if you tried to hug her. With time and much love she has learnt that she'll never be harmed again and now she's fussed and cuddled that much she realises it isn't so bad.

She does struggle now, being an old girl, and has weekly trips to the vets to use their hydrotherapy pool (as swimming is the only exercise she can get, as walking is too much for her), but she enjoys sunbathing in the garden, chasing cats and playing with her dozens of soft toys.

Anyway, some pictures

It still upsets me to think how people can be so vile as to hurt defenceless animals for their own twisted kicks, but at least she has lived as full a life as could have been hoped.

A couple more pictures..

Aww, she's beautiful; what lovely eyes!

I do love GSDs; I still miss mine, even after five years and having another dog.

Oh she's absolutely gorgeous! Feeling very emotional at the moment after just loosing my own GSD x rescue (who was also severally abused), but it was lovely to read how much you obviously love your girl and how good a life she's having.
