My Snail Ate My Corry

is this normal? The corry had been fine in the morning, then i came home to him underneath the snail sandwiched up against the glass. The fish looked normal from looking at him, but when i managed to get it away from the snail the whole side of its body where the snail had been sucked on was eaten!

Sounds like the fish died and the snail took the chance to have a meal

Very unlikely that the snail managed to catch and kill the fish. Fish probably died and the snail took advantage.

What kind of snail is it?

I'm going to go with the others and say the odds of a snail catching a cory arn't very likely at all unless you have one big fast snail.

as stated snails and shrimp etc will see a dead fish as an easy meal. they cant catch and kill fish as they are too slow...... the fish must have died and the remains were being eaten mate. have you checked your water stats for any unsuitable contaminants etc? also i would also do a water change as a dead fish will release ammonia and can cause a spike.

He is a big snail and quite fast. The water stats were fine and so was the corry in the morning. I did a water change after i found the fish. poor corry

Perfectly possible for a fish to die suddenly when it has seemed fine. I've had fish just appear dead when an hour before they look 100% fine.

a fast snail is no competition for any fish in a speed race so it would not have caught it!

I just don't see a snail catching a fish, sometime fish die even in the best of conditions due to uncontrollable things. I had a discus who was very health, in great water and she spooked and collided with the glass causing her to die

I can only imagine a Cory just swimming around, then a big old snail notices it and starts CREEPING towards it at "snail" speed with JAWS music playing as it happens!! :hyper:

There is NO WAY a snail caught a fish, period.
