My Small Planted Shrimp Tank Journal

Just to chuck my 2p's worth in Jen.... I personally wouldn't try to adjust pH and KH etc... It's a royal pain in the butt to do & unless you have very specific water conditions you are targeting I'd consider it a waste of time, effort & money. Let your tank find it's own natural balance really and this means taking time to do things gradually... and gradual changes is the key to all this really and in a sense this philosopy has already been advocated with the suggestion of using a short initial photo-period of just 6 hours and then gradually increasing it to 8 - 10 hours.

Totally agree with you m8 im not keen on playing with water conditions if i dont really have to, but it was more from previous "fishless cycle threads" commenting on a ph crash will stall a cycle and not process ammonia, so it was more that if that can happen during a fishless cycle why doesnt it happen when u have an established tank.

Just a quick update on the tank since the week its been running, the cobamba is needed a trim so thought i would show pics first :).

Also.... i recieved my easy carbo and TPN couple days ago, i accidently oredered TPN instead of TPN+ so while i wait for the + to come im just dosing with the TPN for now.

Can anyone suggest correct dosing for my tank for both the easy carbo and the TPN+ please?

Thanks jen

Very nice!

I think your tank looks really neat with the plants and all!

Quick update ...

Added some (tropica) Hemianthus callitrichoides (cuba) 3 days ago to cover the side parts of the riccia covered rocks, planted in a few bunches and hopefully it will spread.

First time ive used this so fingers crossed it will flourish lol

Couple of pics.... Already grown since putting it in 3 days ago :)

Picking up some eco-complete a week sat so i might strip the whole tank and change the substrate :), rearrange a few things and by some more HC to have a little more covering.

Thanks for looking

Jen

looks great jen, it may pay you to spread the hc out more and plant in smaller bits like 3 stems. it will carpet better this way.

Yeh i know, but i got a little impatient lol and just split into a few bunches instead :p, will get some more when i get the eco complete and ill do it properly this time ;)

thanks for the info tho m8 :)

the HC will make a nice trabsition form the riccia. I cant believe you are changin the substrate all ready! Any reason?

TBH m8 it's more that its a pain while trimming, i uproot the plants and then when rooting again certain amount of the soil rises above the sand and makes a muddy mess, take then a further 2 water changes to clear it. It will also shallow out the subrate abit so it doesnt look so deep, in such a small tank i think the depth i have at the moment is a tad large, might work out better it might not... whats your thoughts?

If i dont do it with this tank i have a 2 foot one i could always use it on and make another planted tank while i sort out the 180 to be planted ;)

As far as im aware eco complete wont need capping so all round i think it will make an esier job of tank maintenance
