In 1995, I started a Guppy culture with 2 males and 5 females in an outside pond...... They multiplied to many, many thousands and even acclimatized to the extent that they survived the winters with no heaters at temperatures below 8 deg C at times.....
Last year, I decided to get rid of all my Guppies, so I sold the lot (approximately 15,000) at below 1 cent per fish.... I told the guy to come and collect and make sure he takes every single one.......
Some 6 months later..... I noticed that he overlooked 2 fry..... One happened to be male and the other one a female..... I put them together in 1 tank and the result..... I'm back with around 2,000 pond guppies.....
I know from experience (and feedback).... that my Guppies are hardier and more robust than the average Guppy purchased from any pet store..... despite the gross inbreeding which I have allowed.....
Today, I randomly caught out some 15 males and put them into my Zebra Danio tank...... I am particularly proud of the tail shape (not so much the colouring) of my own line of Guppies..... I will recognise them in any tank..... I have purchased some yellow males and placed them with a few selected females to try and get some alternative colouring into my strain.... with the same hardiness.... Here are some of those I caught today....
