My Sick Betta

my boyfriends bettas face is swelled up and has been, im beginning to think its just a deformity but i want to make sure it is, i have looked up numerous diseases he could have and his symptoms are swellled up face and gills, i noticed some shimmery gold looking stuff around his gills so im beginning to think he has velvet but he doesnt show any other symptoms of being sick and hasnt sence we got him. i really need help!!!

totally agree with velvet. typical symptom-gold, rust looking

now and then the sides of mines face come out well the gills or whatever? is this the same thing as above or do they normally do this? the fish is fine and as ive said it only does it occasionally

yeah this is normal its called flaring

phew got abit worried then! why would it be doing this wehn its on its own?

If he is in an acrylic tank he can probably see his reflection. I have 2 that do the same thing. Sometimes they will see something sitting by their tank that they think might want to fight also.
