nuritions substrate as in a plant fertilising substrate such as ADA amazonia or JBL aquabasis, nearly every company does their own!! you can then out the gravel over the top or not, or sand, its your choice.

Plain garden soil works well. Before you add it though, you have to let it soak in water for at least 2 weeks because it releases ammonia for the first week or 2. When you go about adding it, try not to disturb it too much, or add a little bit each day just to be safe so you wont have a crash.
Edit: Oh yeah, make sure the soil doesnt have any type of fertilizer in it.
