Aw, they tricked me again. Kari decided to confuse her mum further by showing she had no oviposter, and by me actually noticing he ventrals were longer than Mary's... eh.. and then she went and got a plakat tail and a beard. However, I'll try to get flaring pics for a positive identification. Does anybody know if there can be such as thing as an oviposter less female? Also, is it possible for a female to get eggs in only about 5 days? Mary looks fat.

Well if Kari is a male and Mary is right next to "him" then that would cause her to fill with eggs. I had a female next to her "sister" who got so eggy she dropped the eggs. Turns out the "sister" was really a brother! :)

Wow, quite a story! She just looks fat. Like, not exactly bloated but bigger than Kari. Do you know how long it takes to get eggs? Also, they're both cambodians... and if Kari is a male plakat (they were both labelled Thai Females) then will she be a female? Darn, if I knew the lineage I'd be tempted to breed them. :shifty:

the flare on a male is twice as big as a female. And the ventrals are longer.Does he ever flare at the female? the female will get "eggy" any time not sure how long it takes.I think it can take around a week or something like that.

They both flare big, but they're constantly moving so I can't get a picture. Could some of you try to identify her with these Aquabid pics?

She has a very Halfmoon-ish anal fin, not straight and fairly long.

Her caudal curves in towards her like an O, and in full flare touches both her dorsal and her anal fins.

her ventrals are about that long.

Ok, I recently came home with 2 'females' aswell, only to work out one was indeed male. Once you know what to look for between a male and a female, it will become quite obvious. Firsly, closely at the flare. Ill show you a picture of those two flaring, one is male and one is female, you will be able to notice the difference.. I hope :)

Though the pictire of the (Darker/red) male is not great quality, you can see the may his face is puffed up.

In the second picture you can see how his fins look.

Now Ill post two pictures of the female.

Ok to the female. She is very light bodies which actually means it will be easy for you to see the difference here.

Notice how her Ventrals are maybe 1/3 the size of his.

Now in this second pic of her, she is actually flaring at the male on the otherside of the devider. See how she doesnt get that big dark 'dish' shape around her face when she flares? And even though she is still very young, he fins arn't even half aslong as his.

Well I hope this helps you work it out. Failing this, please do try to get some pics of your girls/boys/girl+boy.. :/

Well, they both puff out their faces in a male-ish way, though at first they would just get a little flare but now they're usually quite obvious. the ventrals are about as long aa your male on Kari, a bit shorter on Mary, but I'll try to get pics.

The only shot i got of her:
