There are also 10 Zebra Danios, but i couldnt get a decent pic :(

very nice

I think you're right about your CAE's. How long do people hang on to them, then how do people get rid. Surely they are too big for most people from what I've read

Lovely tank and indeed that is a CAE, grow to about 30cm and after 10cm they start losing the taste for algae and prefer the slime coating of broad fish, such as angels.

Yeah, thats what i thought, i bought it as a siamese algae eater, so i wasnt happy when i found out! ill have to get rid of them somewhere soon, they are about an inch to two inches at the moment, although one is much larger than the other.

I dont know what else to put in, im getting rid of the betta and the CAE's, and perhaps adding in another angel as there are some nice bright pearlscale ones at my LFS.

I was looking for something with a little colour but cant think of anything and dont want any livebearers.

Any ideas?

Sadly alot of CAE are sold as SAE or similar.
Female bettas are rather colourful when in a big enough group, 5-above.
Dwarf Gouramis are lovely, but make sure you've got 1M:2F.

Why don't you want Livebearers? Angels will eat any young.

How about a group of dwarf cichlids? Kribs, Agassizis, Cockatoos all will do nicely there, just make sure they have their own personal hiding places.
Angels can get very territorial as well, so watch out for that.

Personally, I'd rather go with the female bettas, they can be just as colourful as males given 1/2 the chance.

i have a very large cae in with my large angel and have never had trouble.
Guess i just have a rather chilled cae he like's to hide in his plane and come's out at feeding time

Hmm, i had a school of 5 Bettas in my old tank, but one of them just started beating on the others and killing them off one by one, and that is the only one left, so id rather not go there again...

I wasnt aware that angels would eat livebearer young....hmmm, perhaps a few mollies then? i have always liked the look of gouramis but havent been able to find any nice ones locally...

I wish i had thought it out more and gone chichlids instead of getting the danios... *sigh*

Haha no worries.
Sorry to hear about your females, that sometimes does happen but not very often.
Most gouramis coming into the UK are coming with the iridiovirus, which will kill them very quickly.
You can go for mollies, but I'd think Platies would be more up your street, more colour variations, smaller and don't reproduce as much as mollies.

Don't worry about the danios, you could always add more to have a seriously impressive shoal?

hmm, thats an idea actually, how many more do you think i could fit in?

I was thinking of getting another angel but im not sure how two would do together seeing as they wouldnt be paired?

Im also upping filtration soon too to either 1400Lph or 2000Lph if it helps...

nice Tank :good:

the females CAN be happy alone (some are) and some just hate being alone.

Also, some groups don't work 1, because it for some reason just won't work, and 2, because one of the females could have actually been a young PK boy! I had this issue, all girls were miserable and that's when I realised one was in fact a boy! Took him out and all girls are very colourful now

There will always be fighting and nipping with girls as dominance is always sought after.

Probably double the amount you already have.
I wouldn't go for another Angel myself as I know how aggressive they can be if not paired from a young age.
Stronger filtration would seriously help the danios, they love strong currents.

If you really wanted to push it, you could quite easily (over time of course) have about 30 of the little sods swimming about, however, that might just be overkill and you'll have a massive danio tank with a sneaky bristlenose and a rather pissed off angel.

Ideally no more than 20, they do better with fast flowing water and lower temps.

You could still possibly have those dwarf cichlids providing you did it very carefully.

The angel thats in there just now is still very young and ive only had him/her two weeks or so.... but i might just leave him/her alone.

So how would this sound?

20 Zebra Danio
2 BN Cats
1 Angel

?????

I also heard that the angel might eat the danios when it gets older, and if that is the case then theres no point buying another 10!!?

That sounds lovely.
Generally if angels are introduced to small fish when they're younger, there shouldn't be a problem when they're older, as they associate the fish with fish, rather than food.
With the BN's, 2 males will fight, where as a male and female will produce many babies, not that you'll ever see them, they'll be squirrelled away in a hidey-hole.
Also, Leopard Danios are the same species as Zebras, they will shoal together and add a bit of variety to the mix.

Leopards are a good idea.....

Im not sure what sexes the BNs are as i bought then young about 4 weeks ago. They havent been fighing yet, in fact they are sitting right next to each other on the back wall just now...
