My Red Devil Just Attacked My Hand Lol

Hi my red devils blocked an enrance into a large plantpot trapping kribs in there (btw they are fine together) so i moved the gravel out of the way and the biggest red devil out of the two bolted from the other end of the tank (which is 4x2x2) and bit my hand a couple of times very vicously there is no eggs or whatever they do just a mound of sand and pebbles what they have cleared from around the pot does anyone know why it coould of done this or is it literally just a territory thing it has never done this before it is normally calm and plays with your hand not try and eat it lol

this is the devil that bit me

and this is what it di nothing major or anything just marked me and made me jump lol

Sexing mature Red devil cichlids is not hard, since the adult male Red devil cichlid develops a prominent bump on his forehead and has a pointy genital papilla. The male is also typically bigger than the female. The Red devil cichlids form monogamous pairs and both sexes participate in the raring of their offspring. Before any spawning takes place, the male can be very aggressive towards the female. It is therefore important that the female have many suitable hiding spots in the aquarium. You can also include a net in the set up with an opening that is too small for the male Red devil cichlid to swim through. If the female have no place to escape in the aquarium, she can die of injury or become severely ill from the stress.

basically the same situation lol so now i know ive just put some slate in there for them too

I'd get the other fish out of that tank ASAP cause it sounds like you will be seeing eggs in the near future

yeah they are now out davo86 mate lol the kribs are going to be up for sale soon too they are also super frisky at the mo too plus some jewel cichlid fry 2 month old up for sale soon

well ive sorted the tank out and they are definatly going to spawn the male has made a massive pit and he keeps going slowly vertical up a sheet of slate against the glass the female hasn't laid eggs yet so i think he's just practicing lol

normally they are fine they will play with your hand no biting just nudging and rubbing and swimming through your fingers but noooo not today lol they don't even like me anywhere near their tank now or even in the kitchen for that matter they go nuts lol ive just braved it and turned the heater up a little to get them proper ready for spawning they left me alone this time

my hand doesn't squeek lol although my dog seems to think so lol he's always trying to have a little chew
