My Protien Skimmer Over Flow Mod

well for some reason my v2 400 skimmer began to fill the cup up so fast that it overflowed twice yesterday and shorted out my house as it ran into a plug it is on its lowest and the only reason i could think of was that the i unkinked the piping the day before so i thought enough is enough so i got 2 metres of 11mm flexible pipe and a bend and a straight connector which cost 5 pounds all in i then drilled the skimmers side of the cup and super glued the straight connetor in i added a 3 inch piece of pipe added the bend and ran the rest of the pipe behind my tank and then drilled the top of a container/drum thing and put the pipe in the drum so now if the cup gets almost full it just pours into the drum and it takes a long time to fill so you empty it less. just saying this incase anyone else has this problem they may want to do this.

i am not reliable for any breakages caused by doing this and only do this if your confident at diy

Have you not got a plastic flow regulator valve that came with the Rio pump for your skimmer

The idea is to close this over somewhat (not fully closed) until you find the correct flowrate for the skimmer to work at.
You then make fine adjustments with the Water level adjustment dial which is on the skimmer body itself.
You will not have an overflow problem if you use this method.
