My Poor Guppy!

I don't know what to do! The fish I've had for 2 years are suddenly dying--I had 5 cardinal tetras--now dowon to one. All but 1 died overnight with no symptoms. the other one was swimming vertically for weeks. Then I lost a guppy--fine one day, dead the next. My second guppy's gorgeous speckled fin is disintegrating. I've been giving him tetracycline for a week now (in fish food form). No change in his fin at all. Any ideas? I do weekly gravel vacs/water changes, readings are normal. 20 gallon tank with: 2 guppies, 1 platy, 1 tetra, 2 albino cories.

Stop the food form sounds like he's not getting enough of it.
Add a med maracyn.
If there dying with no symtoms usually you treat the tank as a bacterial infection.

Thanks--I don't have a hospital tank, so I assume you think it's ok to treat the whole tank? Should I use Triple Sulfa? You refer to Maracyn--but I do have Mardel Triple sulfa.

Hi, Random, my bacterial meds are not having any effect on the guppy's tail. He's full of energy, eating, but his tail is the same. I treated the entire tank with Mardel Triple sulfa due to recent unexplained fish loss. Any suggestions? My betta is in his own 5 gallon tank with same thing--fin loss. Been using Triple Sulfa on him for a total of 20 days (a short break between). It's not worse, but not better either.

Sounds like the triple sulfa kept it at bay, but not strong enough to get rid of it.

You mean Maracyn and Maracyn 2? I don't recall seeing Maracyn 1. thx for answering all my posts!

Just make sure that it dosn't wipe the bacterial colony out in your filter.

My carbon is pretty old, is that good enough to maintain the bacterial colony. If not, how do I prevent that?
