yep thats a platy, the lighter picture has helped, the first pic must of just been the angle of the platy when pic was taken so it made her look molliefied
hold on...............i cant believe i didnt notice the top bit that said it was from your platy book oh well, the book is a platy defo but there is a question on your own pic though still.............sorry
No, just do flash, it won't scare her, I have to do flash all the time and my fish seem to like the attention. My bet is it's a molly though, never trust them LFS.
Still, looks like a molly from the picture + black platies with that colouring are pretty rare, usually they have clear fins and some silver/white on their body.
Secondly, in the pic it could just be that the anal fin is down, but to me it looks like a gonpodium, which only adds to the confusion lol .
If your 100% sure it's not a mollie then that pic must look the fish look way different anyway.
But at the very least it's a platy/swordtail cross (almost all platies have swordtail in them anyway) .
i feel we should invoke more confidence in platyfanatics abilities to tell a platy from a mollie as they did buy the fish! i would love a black platy they are so rare! can never find anything like it!!!!! (also the black platy in my book doesnt have silver coloured fins and whilst the coloured fins are rarer it is possible)
