Hello guys, my female platy has been pregnant now for a week or two and she is getting big, quite big.
I was just wondering if you know wether she is close to to giving birth.
Also what could i do to help her and the fry inside her?
By the way, she is quite hungry as i have fed her small amounts today and i have just gave her her third feed, however she has finally satisfied her hunger needs as she isnt interested in the food anymore.
So what can i do guys. :S

Well if it has only been a week or two expect it to be another week or two.. it takes up to 4-6 weeks for them to drop...

Ok then good, i didnt want her to give birth without me being prepared for it, i thought it was a bit early, i just went in to browse at her and she was just sort of hovering in the water looking fat, lol.
Anyway what can i do to help her and her fry inside her? :hyper:

with the increased feeding you need to do more water changes to reduce nitrates as she will be producing loads of waste and the excess food she dont it will be rotting away, kepp her on a mixture of live/frozen and flakes until she has them

Ok then, i do a water change every week anyway.
Here is a picture of her:
How long would you say now?

Bad news everybody i got up this morning and she was thin again.
She has aborted nooooooo. :-(
Does anybody know why she has aborted her fry? :(

You sure you're not just worrying too much? Mine gets fat one day and go skinny the next... Now today mines huge AGAIN!

She was probably just constipated for a day or two. The fish in the picture doesn't even look like a platy... can you get a pic with flash?

must admit platyfanatic that does look like the shape of a mollie

a fish that shape in the belly would only be bloated from excess feeding, this I know you have been doing due to you thinking she was pregnant, if she was pregnant at only 2 weeks she wouldnt be that shape (squared) she would be more of a rounded appearence, if she was pregnant all along and had her fry last night then the squaring would be more higher up, just under the lower jaw.

so i truly think its just overfeeding, take a step back and a deep breath and wait for your girl to have some fry at a later date :good:

the complete shape is that of a mollie she is far to long to be a platy and the finnage is the wrong shape, are you sure you got a platy? can you get us a better picture with the flash on? :good: ;)

What I'm guessing is.... your female is a molly... and your male is a platy, different families so that's why you have no babies. But that is definately a molly. Pics of the male?

will the flash scare her though?
And yes she i definately a molly, well she was in a tank saying platies written all over it so, humm yes shes a platy. :grr:
She is a rare black platy, and i even have a book to prove it.
