I set up a 29 gallon freshwater tank about a month and a half to 2 months ago. Right now I just have some colombian tetras in it, along with a java fern and some anubias. I've been thinking about getting rid of the tetras and going brackish. I have been reading for about 1 month everyday for hours on brackish tanks, but I still have a fw questions. I would like any opinions or comments regarding my plans.
I would like to have it heavily planted. I've researched brackish plants and know what I'll be getting to go along with the java fern and anubia.
I would like to add sand on top of the gravel I have in there already. Would that be a problem? Also plan on adding Malaysian Trumpet Snails to keep it clean and turned.
As for the fish. I was thinking about 5 bumble bee gobies, a few mollies, a couple of guppies, an orange chromide, a flounder, a few amano srhimp and a nerite snail.
I don't want to overstock, but here is my thinking and someone can tell me if I'm wrong.
The bumble bee gobies are small and so are the guppies and amano shrimp. I was thinking that the guppy and shrimp fry could be an extra food source for the gobies. Probably would get all female mollies so I wouldn't have any fry from them.
Now I don't plan on adding everything on the same day. I'm talking about over a gradual period of time.
Also thought that with a heavy plant load that will be good for the tank.
Another concern is my filtration. I have a HOB Penguin biowheel 170. I read that brackish should be turned 10 times the size of the tank an hour. Right now I would fall at a little over half that, unless my math is wrong.
Also, do orange chromides do ok with just one?
Sorry for so many questions, but I want to get this right.
Thanks in advance.
